Once a year (usually in the early spring) we hold an in-person study group to help you obtain your Basic Amateur Radio license. There are no age limits or prerequisites for the course. At the end of the course, examinations will be offered for all students. After that, you can choose a callsign and get on the air right away.
Why?
Make contacts with your radio across the world to friends and fellow hams via voice, morse code, or digital modes. It’s emergency readiness, but also a great hobby with regular island-wide activities plus you get to meet cool, fun, and nerdy people all over the world whenever you want to.
Main topics covered will be:
- Regulations and Policies
- Operating and Procedures
- Station Assembly, Practice and Safety
- Circuit Components
- Basic Electronics and Theory
- Feedlines and Antenna Systems
- Radio Wave Propagation
- Interference and Suppression
Cost
There is no cost for course participation, but we recommend you buy the study guide book which the course is based on (about $55) and we do charge a fee for each exam attempt to recover the cost for the print ($10).
Register Interest
Register your interest for the upcoming course here. There is no commitment. We will reach out when we get closer with our planning.
