This Week on the Air….
AU7RS (VU7) – Lakshadweep Island While we originally intended to begin operations on the morning of February 8, we will now commence on February 10, 2026. We plan to have two stations on the air by 12:00 UTC and will gradually increase the number of active stations. Our mission is to activate the rare VU7 call sign from the Lakshadweep Islands, providing valuable contacts for DXers worldwide, especially in North and South America. 8R, GUYANA Aldir, PY1SAD is once again operating as 8R1TM until February 23. QRV on all bands with 6 metres included using CW, SSB, digi and SAT. QSL via LoTW or direct.
9X, RWANDA Harold, DF2WO is once again active as 9X2AW until around February 10. QRV in ‘holiday-style’ on QO-100 and from 160 to 10 metres using CW, FT4 and SSB.
C2, NAURU Phil, FK1TS/C21TS will be back on air starting around January 31 until end July 2026. Phil mentions ‘It’s been great fun working everyone. And I keep promising but never deliver, but for sure some SSB next year. I need to get myself a good headset so I can be hands free and then good to go. It’s also very noisy here. I live right next to the main road with no air con so windows always open. March / April should still bring some good contacts. SSB contacts will be barefoot. Legal limit here for CW / FT8 etc is 105 watts, SSB 400 watts. My licence good to the end of 2026. As stated below I will finish for good towards the end of July ’26 when my 3 years is up. H4, SOLOMON ISL Bernard (DL2GAC) is once again QRV as H44MS from Manakwai village until April 10. Operation from 80 to 6 metres using SSB and FT8. QSL via home call, direct or bureau.

J52EC, GUINEA-BISSAU Last active in January ’25, Livio, IZ3BUR is again QRV as J52EC until early March. Look for him on 10 & 15m SSB. QSL via IZ3BUR (direct only).
J79H – Dominica Haluk Yetkin (TA2LE), will be in Dominica (J7) throughout 2026. Focusing on CW, SSB, and Digital (FT8/FT4) on 10m-40m. QSL via M0OXO.
KP5, DESECHEO ISL In collaboration with the Vieques Island Amateur Radio Club (NP3VI) and the Manyana DX Foundation, a landmark DXpedition to Desecheo Island (KP5), currently ranked as the 14th most wanted DXCC entity worldwide. To ensure continuous, global on-air presence, two self-sustained Remote Deployable Units (RDUs) provided by the Manyana DX Foundation are deployed on the island. These stations are operating 24 hours a day for 30 consecutive days, utilizing state-of-the-art remote operating infrastructure from Remote Ham Radio (RHR). The primary mission of this DXpedition is to provide an All-Time New One (ATNO) to as many amateur radio operators worldwide as possible. PJ2, CURACAO Thaire, W2APF is QRV as PJ2/call until March 31. Activity from 80 to 10 metres using CW, SSB and FT8 with a Elecraft K5D and a Buddipole, DX Commander for 40 and 30 and a doublet for 80. QSL via home call, LoTW.
PJ2, CURACAO Andre, PD1DRE is back as PJ2/call until March 4 in ‘holiday-style’. S0, WESTERN SAHARA Two operators of the Sahrawi Amateur Radio Union Club will be active as S0S on QO-100 between February 3 and 8. The locators of the activity will vary going from north to south covering grids: IL35, IL34, IL33, IL32, IL31, IL21, IL11 and IL10. QSL via LoTW, Club Log.

VP8, SOUTH SHETLAND Active when time permits, look for Ivo LZ1AAW to QRV as LZ0A from the Bulgarian Antarctic Base of St. Kliment Ohridski, Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands, AN010 until mid-February.
Z8, SOUTH SUDAN Once again, Diya YI1DZ is active as Z81D, his UN-WFP contract runs until March 30. Activity from 40 to 6 metres using SSB and FT8. Perhaps some 60 and 80 metres. QSL via OM3JW, LoTW.

Antarctic Bases….
Casey Station ,Tom, VK2TBC is going to be based at Casey Station, Antarctica and plans to be operational as VK0TBC between February and December this year. He will be running with a Flex-8400 and DX Commander plus other wire antennas. QRV when time permits on SSB & FT8.
McMurdo Station, Ross Island by Andrew KC4/KL5SE My 11th season to McMurdo Station, Antarctica. I’ll be operating from there as KC4USV and as KC4/KL5SE from field camps nearby during the 2025-2026 Austral summer seasons. So far activity has been from: Neumayer Station. New ham operator Lasse, DL9LU is active during the entire winter as DP0GVN until December 2026. QSL via OQRS.

The Abegweit Award is a Prince Edward Island (PEI) amateur radio award that requires specific radio contacts after January 1, 1960, depending on your location. For licensed amateurs in PEI and other Atlantic provinces this involves contacting stations in all three PEI counties (Prince, Queens, and Kings). The rest of Canada and the USA must contact any 3 different PEI stations all other stations need to contact any 2 PEI stations.
Requirements for the Abegweit Award:
PEI Stations must contact stations in all 3 PEI counties (Prince, Queens, and Kings) after January 1, 1960.
Canadian and USA Stations (outside of the Atlantic Provinces) must contact any 3 different PEI stations.
Stations outside of Canada and USA must contact any 2 PEI stations.
How to apply:
