The Board of Trustees of the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Neil Carleton, VE3NCE, of Almonte, Ontario has been named to the Hall of Fame.
Radio Amateurs of Canada recognizes deserving Amateurs by appointments to the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. The Constitution for the Hall specifies that the appointment as Member of the Hall is made for “outstanding achievement and excellence of the highest degree, for serious and sustained service to Amateur Radio in Canada, or to Amateur Radio at large”.
The Trustees of the Hall have interpreted the Constitution to mean that the person has performed significant service over many years to enhance the well-being of Amateur Radio.
Amateur Radio played an important role during Neil’s career as a Teacher at R. Tait McKenzie Public School in Almonte. He was a key advisor in the development of the RAC Youth Education Program which has as its objective “to provide youth and their leaders with an innovative way of learning by introducing them to the wonderful world of Amateur Radio”. The Program provides financial and personal support to Teachers in schools and Leaders in community youth groups in all regions of the country. Through his articles in The Canadian Amateur magazine, RAC members and friends learned that Amateur Radio was a great way to make classroom connections across the curriculum.
Neil was also very active with the Almonte Amateur Radio Club and his contributions included serving as their First Archivist, Membership Coordinator, Treasurer and as a Special Events Station Coordinator of the 150th anniversary of Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball.
Radio Amateurs of Canada and the Board of Trustees of CARHOF sincerely congratulate Neil Carleton on his appointment to the Hall of Fame. He will be formally inducted to the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame at an event in the near future.
