Spain: Special call sign prefixes

Special call sign prefixes are being used in Spain from April 15-30 in celebration of the 95th Anniversary of the IARU and World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) on April 18

A translation of the URE post says:

The Union of Spanish Radio Amateurs (URE), on the occasion of the celebration of the 95th anniversary of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) and to contribute to the development and dissemination of radio communications in general and to the world of radio amateurs in particular and with the objective to accompany radio amateurs in the exceptional situation caused by the spread of COVID-19, they have requested authorization to use certain special call signs on a temporary basis.

On April 15, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures sent us the following resolution:

Authorize any radio amateur who has the required individual authorization, on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), the temporary use of a special call sign, with a different number and prefix to that of its distinctive but keeping its suffix , according to the following:

Prefix:
– Call signs with EA prefix: AO prefix
– Call signs with EB prefix: AM prefix
– Call signs with EC prefix: AN prefix

District:
– Number of the call sign: add “95” after the numeral in the call sign.

Examples:
EA4ZZZ -> AO495ZZZ
EB4ZZZ -> AM495ZZZ
EC4ZZZ -> AN495ZZZ

The use of the special authorized signs for transmissions from the individual stations will be carried out under the direct and in-person responsibility and supervision of the radio amateur.

The period of use of all the special call signs authorized by this Resolution will be from April 15 to 30, 2020, both dates included.

TF3WARD on-the-air for World Amateur Radio Day

Many national societies will be using special callsigns for World Amateur Radio Day  on April 18, among them is Iceland’s IRA with TF3WARD

A translation of the IRA post reads:

International Radio Amateur Day is Saturday, April 18. The International Amateur Radio Union IARU was founded 95 years ago in 1925. Initially there were 25 affiliates, but today there are radio amateurs operating in 160 nations around the world, with over 4 million licensees.

The Icelandic Radio Amateurs (IRA) will keep up with the day by activating for the first time, the company’s new call sign, TF3WARD (World Amateur Radio Day). The IRA will thus follow in the footsteps of its sister organisations in the Nordic countries (and around the world), which operate this month every year, a special WARD callsign.

IARU is divided into three regions: Area-1 covering Europe, Africa, the Middle East and northern Asia; Area-2 covering North and South America and Area-3, covering Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and most of Asia.
