May Meteor Shower Eta Aquarids….
Also sometimes spelled as Eta Aquariid, the meteor shower is usually active between April 19 and May 28 every year. This year during May 5 and May 6 should produce about 50 shooting stars per hour. Projected to peak overnight from May 5 to 6, the best time to view the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is typically during the pre-dawn hours. Based on previous patterns, activity is strongest between 2 AM and 6 AM local time, so be sure to set your alarm and head out during these hours for the best chance of catching the show.
6M and 2M….
Here is another chance to try 6M and 2M meteor scatter. For info on how to try Amateur Radio Meteor Scatter see: https://g7rdx.co.uk/vhf/meteor-scatter/#how-meteor-scatter-works
SSB is fun as well but you have to be fast!!!
Named After Aquarius
The radiant, the point in the sky where the Eta Aquarids seem to emerge from, is in the direction of the constellation Aquarius. The shower is named after Eta Aquarii, one of the stars within the constellation.
The Eta Aquarids is one of two meteor showers created by debris from Comet Halley. The Earth passes through Halley’s path around the Sun a second time in October. This creates the Orionid meteor shower, which peaks around October 20.
Comet Halley takes around 76 years to make a complete revolution around the Sun. The next time it will be visible from Earth is in 2061.
